linux - Hardware Clock goes in future sometimes -

i have slackware kernel version 2.6 in machine. ntpd off on machine. facing unusual issue. in month, hardware clock goes months ahead, years , sometime minutes. unsure software clock jump because hwclock --hctosys scheduled @ 5 minutes interval.

same issue found on slackware kernel version 2.4 too. have checked there no other software installed causes issue , no virus reported on disk.

battery cell ok , new , issue occurs on different units of same hardware. thought if kind of software or kernel issue or rtc hardware related?

one way check forcefulness kernel re-read hardware clock couple of times. utilize hwclock(8) so. if results same each time, there indeed problem. might have failing motherboard.

linux real-time-clock hwclock
