i can't seem find info on magento site (v 1.7.0.2 (stable)) , need clarification. i've taken on maintenance of magento-based shopping site. have shopping cart cost rules set in promotions don't seem applying correctly.

i've seemed narrow downwards issue configurable/simple products.

here illustration of 1 of pricing rules set: pricing rule - 30% product in categories conditions - none set actions - if of these conditions true : category 1 of xxx, xxx, xxx

the problem seems company using configurable products , when create configuarable product place right categories on when create associated simple products, don't place categories on simple products.

my question, long way around it, shouldn't simple product inherit categories of parent configurable product? can remedied?

they have 6000 products have go add together right categories if have add together them simple product well.

we seem having same issue, running magento 1.9. 1 solution have found run cron-job apply categories simple products of configurable product. should work, don't solution @ - surprising bug has made way version 1.9.
