i have excel add-in working fine. company made changes trust center , allow. gave me next options:

i can self-sign certificate or install add-in in specific directory trusted. given these options, here questions:

if utilize self-signed certificate don't need manually install on each user's machine? if utilize msi install package, can designate directory add-in installed, don't lose ability automatic updates add-in?

what think best options and/or there other options?

yes. signed certificate not have valid signature unless certificate in trust store. if have kind of pki infrastructure @ company, adcs, can code signing certificate them (assuming place want utilize vsto add together on trusts authority's root).

clickonce has auto-updating functionality, i've never used vsto, might work. msi not going automatically update installation, there plenty of frameworks create easier, squirrel.
