osx - cannot start apache server after upgrading php to 5.5 in mac -

i going develop laravel application have mac os x 10.6.8 php version 5.3. installed , updated php version 5.5. , run command without knowing why.

export path=/usr/local/php5/bin:$path

things got worst, apache server in xampp application cannot start.

my questions are:

is okay upgrade , update php version though statically installed in every mac devices? http://php-osx.liip.ch/ follow tutorial how upgrade php version, doing right? or there i'm missing? lastly, there relation why xampp apache server cannot start when upgrading php version?
